Women in Law Japan is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a panel discussion on Japanese labor laws and talent management at Amazon Japan’s beautiful Meguro office on Wednesday 12th June, 2019. We will be joined by distinguished panel members and moderator Andrew Savage, the lead employment lawyer for Amazon Japan and Korea and a long-term Japan resident. This event will be in English. This event will be held in English and will be a panel discussion on Japanese labor laws and talent management.

Panelists (in alphabetical order):

MIE FUJIMOTO is co-head of TMI Associates’ cross-border labor and employment practice. She advises both domestic and international clients on all aspects of labor and employment, such as representing clients in employment disputes, investigating employee misconduct, and negotiating with trade unions. In particular, she has extensive experience in advising foreign clients across a wide variety of industries including retail, finance, IT, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and human resources.

PETER NADLER has been a partner at Tozai Sogo for 12 years. Prior to that he worked in Japan at Anderson Mori and Mitsui Yasuda. He also worked in New York City at three mid-sized firms, doing commercial litigation, labor law and corporate transactions, lastly at Sankel, Skurman and McCartin. Mr. Nadler’s area of practice include Corporate Law, International Business Transactions, Labor Law and Litigation.

TAKASHI SUGIWARA has been a partner at Tozai Sogo for more than 20 years. Prior to joining Tozai Sogo Law Office he worked as a lawyer at Nishi, Tanaka & Takahashi and Davis Wright Tremaine. Mr. Sugawara’s area of practice includes Labor Law, Corporate Law, International Business Transactions, Bankruptcy Law, and Intellectual Property Rights.

SONIA TOTTEN MAYER, a native of Tokyo, has been the Head of Talent Acquisition at CBRE since 2014, where she is charged with the organization’s full spectrum of hiring needs, from mid-career recruitment to new graduate and disability hiring.
Sonia relocated to Hawaii in 2004 together with her partner and began working in Executive Search, and only very soon thereafter found herself in Shanghai in the role of co-founder of Quadrant Ltd., a boutique, retained executive search firm. Over the next 8 years, Sonia worked to grow the business to 18 people, with offices established in Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore. Meanwhile, she continued to serve a number of multi-national companies in greater China, assisting them with their senior talent needs.
Sonia is a mother of 10-year old twins. She understands the challenge of wearing multiple hats and believes in the importance of achieving a harmonious level of work-life balance. As a committee member of CBRE’s D&I program, she is committed to raising awareness and furthering knowledge of key business community issues, such as childcare, elder care and the presence of unconscious bias in the workplace.
