We are pleased to invite you to this joint virtual event with Korean Women Lawyers’ Association (KWLA) at 5 pm on November 19, 2020 to discuss the #MeToo movement and other similar activities/updates in Japan and Korea. KWLA is the only group of Korean qualified female lawyers promoting women’s rights, with 8,300 members, since 1991.
KWLA recently represented a couple of victims in lawsuits and won against attackers who included high-profile artists and a politician. The team will share their experiences from those cases and other activities at the event.
Co-sponsored by Baker McKenzie, the panel discussion will consist of Hye Jin Seo from KWLA and Kazuko Ito, secretary general of Human Rights Now. Hojung Jun (Baker McKenzie Tokyo) will moderate the event.
Our panelists will discuss:
• Introduction to KWLA and WILJ
• Kazuko Ito: MeToo movement in Japan
• Hye Jin Seo: MeToo movement in Korea including introduction to actual cases KWLA represented in 2018
• Q&A based on questions raised by WILJ/KWLA and questions from the audience received during registration

この度、2020年11月19日午後5時より、Korean Women Lawyers’ Association (KWLA)、Women in Law Japan (WILJ) 及びベーカーマッケンジーの合同で、日本及び韓国における#MeToo運動などの活動やそれらの最新情報をご提供する、バーチャル・イベントを開催することになりました。KWLAは、1991年の設立以来、8,300名の会員を有する韓国で唯一の女性の権利を促進する女性弁護士団体です。
KWLAは、最近、数名の被害者を代理し、高名な芸術家や政治家たる加害者を相手に勝訴しました。イベントでは、これらの事例や他の活動におけるKWLAの経験を共有する予定です。
本イベントでは、ベーカーマッケンジー東京事務所のHojung Jun がモデレーターを務め、KWLAのHye Jin Seo氏と、認定NPO法人ヒューマンライツ・ナウ事務局長の伊藤和子氏がパネルディスカッションを行います。

Kazuko Ito is a human rights lawyer in Japan who currently acts as the secretary general of Human Rights Now (HRN). HRN is the first international human rights NGO based in Tokyo, Japan with UN special consultative status (obtained in 2012). HRN was established in 2006 by a group of human rights professionals, lawyers, scholars, and journalists. With over 700 members comprised of various human rights specialists, HRN works for the promotion and protection of human rights around the world, with a special focus on Asia.
Kazuko is also a member and the former head of the Gender Equality Committee of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and a board member of the Japan Association of Gender and Law. She is with Mimosa Forest Law Office and is a coauthor of the book “The Global #MeToo Movement”.
伊藤和子氏は、日本の人権弁護士であり、現在、認定NPO法人ヒューマンライツ・ナウ事務局長（”HRN”) を務めています。HRNは、東京に拠点を置く日本初の国際人権NGOで、法律家、研究者、ジャーナリストなどの人権分野のプロフェッショナルたちが中心となり2006年に発足しました。2012年には国連の特別協議機関としての資格も取得しています。現在では、様々な専門家で構成される700人以上のメンバーを擁し、アジアを中心とした世界の人々の人権擁護と推進に取り組んでいます。伊藤和子氏は、また日本弁護士連合会の両性の平等に関する委員会委員長を歴任し、ジェンダー法学会理事も務めます。ミモザの森法律事務所に所属し、「The Global #MeToo Movement」の共著者でもあります。
Hye Jin Seo has been working actively as counsel for the rights of sexual violence and child abuse victims in Korea. The Me Too Movement in Korea was sparked by a female prosecutor, and numerous cases have since followed involving various sectors. Hye Jin has served as counsel to victims in several high-profile cases, including:
• the Hee Jung AHN case, in which a former governor and politician was made to step down for sexually assaulting his aide and was subsequently sentenced to 3.5 years’ imprisonment
• the Yoon Taek LEE case, which involved the producer/head of a theater company who sexually assaulted several actresses for 18 years and was sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment
Hye Jin was admitted to the Korean Bar in 2011. She currently serves as director of KWLA and advisor to the Korea Rape Crisis Center, Women’s Human Rights Institute of Korea.
Hye Jin Seo氏は、韓国において性的暴力や児童虐待の被害者の代理人として積極的に活動しています。韓国では、女性検察官によるMeToo運動が起きて以来、多くの事件が様々な分野で起きています。Hye Jin氏は、Hee Jung AHN事件（元知事・政治家で、性的暴行後退去したが、その後3.5年の懲役刑を言い渡された） やYoon Taek LEE事件（プロデューサー・劇団長で、過去18年間に数人の女優への性的暴行をはたらき、7年の懲役刑を言い渡された）など、数々の有名な事件で被害者代理人を務めました。Hye Jin氏は2011年に韓国弁護士資格を取得し、現在はWomen’s Human Rights Institute of KoreaのKorea Rape Crisis Centerのアドバイザー、及びKWLAのDirectorを務めています。

Hojung Jun is a member of the Executive Committee of WILJ and has been a member of WILJ since its foundation. She was in-house legal counsel at a major Korean group company in 2010-2014 and while there she investigated cases involving female employees. She moved to Tokyo in 2014, and she is currently a senior associate of Baker McKenzie’s project practice group and a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Having been educated and worked in the US, Korea and Japan, she has deep insight into cultural differences regarding women in these countries.

2010年から2014年まで韓国の大手グループ企業で社内弁護士を務め、女性従業員に関する調査に従事しました。2014年に拠点を東京に移した後、ベーカー＆マッケンジーのプロジェクトグループのシニア・アソシエイトとして多くの案件を手掛ける傍ら、同事務所のDiversity & Inclusion Committeeのメンバーとして活動しています。米国、韓国および日本での教育・勤務経験を通じ、各国の女性に関する文化的な違いに関し深い見識を有しています。
