Hiring Announcement: Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of Law, Business Law Department (Adjunct Professor)

Vicki Beyer, director of the Global Business Law Program (“GBL”) at Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of Law, Business Law Department is seeking one or two qualified individuals to teach “Legal English” and “Legal Research and Writing” in the 2021 Spring/Summer semester as an adjunct professor (hijokin). The ideal candidate(s) will be a graduate of a JD or equivalent degree of a common law jurisdiction law school with strong understanding of legal principals and strong English language skills.

GBL is a masters degree program taught at night to working legal professional adults.

For “Legal Research and Writing”, the course will be taught in weekly (Wednesday night) 105 minute sessions to the latest cohort of students entering the GBL program (maximum 8 students), commencing in the second week of April and continuing for 13 weeks. The purpose of the course is to empower students to formulate their “thesis” topics, commence research and prepare to write their theses.

For “Legal English”, the course may be taught on the same schedule (day of the week, tba), or can as an intensive course over 7 to 10 Saturdays between May and July. This is subject to negotiation with the instructor. The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with legal terminology and concepts in English to empower them to study in English towards their masters degree. This course usually has enrollment of about a dozen students.
