Maria Abe
Maria Abe is an Associate at Vanguard Lawyers Tokyo, a boutique firm that specializes in employment and labor issues as well as disputes and litigation. She focuses on employment law, disputes and investigations, as well as general corporate matters. Maria uses her knowledge and experience to help client’s gain a more nuanced understanding of the Japanese legal landscape. She joined the Women in Law Japan Executive Committee in 2023.
Maria studied physics in college before going to law school. Following her studies, she was admitted to practice law in the state of Ohio in the United Sates and later also passed the U.S. patent bar.
Before coming to Japan, Maria owned and operated her own firm in Ohio, and once she came to Japan, she worked at a local patent firm before joining Vanguard Lawyers Tokyo.
Maria has spent a significant part of her career in traditionally male dominated fields, and believes strongly in the idea of diversity and inclusion. She is passionate about promoting women pursing their careers and helping men to understand the struggles of working women. By bridging the gap, Maria believes that the lives of both men and women can be enriched.
